New ownership of Rajasthan Royals: American consortium bought the team
Big change in the ownership of Rajasthan Royals
Rajasthan Royals have taken an important step in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The ownership of the team is now in the hands of an American consortium, which is worth $ 1.63 billion, i.e. approximately Rs 15,286 crore. The consortium is led by Kal Somani, who is backed by key investors such as Rob Walton and the Hamp family. This new ownership will come into effect after the end of the IPL 2026 season.
Entry of American investors
The deal has attracted attention from the global sports community, particularly because it also involves the Hamp family, owners of the Detroit Lions. Kal Somani, who is the founder of several leading companies, is all set to take Rajasthan Royals to new heights. Cricket experts believe that such investment is a sign of the growing global recognition of IPL. This is the first time that a foreign consortium has invested such a huge amount in Indian cricket.
Dasun Shanaka selection
Rajasthan Royals have suffered a major blow ahead of IPL 2026, as England star all-rounder Sam Curran has been ruled out of the tournament due to injury. In his place, experienced Sri Lankan player Dasun Shanaka has been included in the team at a base price of Rs 2 crore. Shanaka has experience of 131 T20 matches and specializes in aggressive batting and useful bowling.
Kumar Sangakkara’s faith
Team director and head coach Kumar Sangakkara has expressed his opinion on this change. He said that Sam Curran’s departure is a loss for the team, but Dasun Shanaka will prove to be an excellent replacement. According to Sangakkara, Shanaka is an excellent finisher and his presence will maintain the balance of the team. Shanaka has previously been a part of Gujarat Titans, due to which he has good experience of Indian pitches.
