Following Larijanis Death Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr Becomes Irans Security Chief
Iran has appointed a new head of the National Security Council. The new security chief will replace Ali Larijani, who was killed in an air strike on March 17. Iran’s semi-official news agency Mehr quoted the Presidential Office as saying that Mohammad Bagher Zolghadar has been appointed as the new secretary of the Supreme National Security Council.
According to the news, Mohammad Mahdi Tabatabai, deputy of communications and information of the Iranian Presidential Office, announced this on Tuesday. It is reported that with the approval and consent of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Mojtaba Khamenei and the order of President Massoud Pezeshkian, Mohammad Bagher Zolghadar has been appointed Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran.
Zolghadar will replace Larijani. On 17 March, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Secretary Ali Larijani, his son Morteza Larijani, Alireza Bayat, deputy head of internal security in the Supreme National Security Council Secretariat, and several bodyguards were killed.
Larijani was the secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) and considered the chief architect of the country’s defense, nuclear and foreign policies.
Hours after the Israeli claim, the Iranian Foreign Ministry issued a statement confirming Larijani’s death. The Islamic Republic of Iran described Larijani’s assassination as an act of cowardice.
It was written in it that Larijani’s death was not murder but martyrdom which he gave for Iran. They were “martyred” during an attack by the United States and the Israeli regime on a residential area in Tehran.
The ministry described Larijani as a dedicated philosopher, profound thinker, patriotic statesman, and a trusted and loyal companion of the Martyr Leader of the Islamic Revolution (Khamenei), as well as a true servant of the nation.
