Big decision in favor of Sonakshi Sinha, Delhi High Court takes strict action on AI tampering
New Delhi: Delhi High Court has given an important and strict decision in the matter of personality rights related to Sonakshi Sinha. The court has made it clear that no AI (artificial intelligence) platform or website will be allowed to use the actress’s name, looks, voice or face without her permission. This order is being considered as a big message on the increasing AI misuse in the digital age.
The bench of Justice Jyoti Singh gave this decision on a petition in which Sonakshi Sinha had alleged that some people were using artificial intelligence tools to create fake and obscene pictures of her and sharing them on social media. The court held that such activities are not only illegal but are also causing serious and irreparable harm to the image and reputation of the actress.
The court said in its order that various defendants, including some unnamed entities, are using various aspects of the actress’ personality such as name, voice, image and identity without permission and are taking undue commercial advantage. The court has termed it clearly wrong and exploitative.
In this case, the court has directed AI platforms and related websites to remove all such objectionable URLs that have been identified in the petition within 36 hours. This direction has been given to ensure that such content on digital platforms is stopped immediately and the victim can get relief.
The court also said that images created using AI technology that depict a person in an inappropriate or obscene manner are not only a violation of their dignity but also spread a wrong message in the society. Strict action is necessary against such content so that such cases can be prevented in future.
The impact of this decision is not limited to Sonakshi Sinha alone but it is important for all those public figures whose identity and image are being misused on digital mediums. This order shows the seriousness of the judiciary regarding the protection of individual rights amid the growing influence of AI and the Internet.
In this series, veteran South actor Mohanlal has also moved the court to protect his identity and image. In his petition, he has demanded that without his permission, his name, voice or picture should not be used for any kind of commercial gain.
This entire matter is an indication that legal monitoring of the use of AI may become more strict in the future. Digital platforms now have to understand that misuse of technology is not only against the law but can deeply hurt a person’s reputation.
