PM Modi Warns of Long-Term Impact of US-Iran War, Urges Preparedness in Rajya Sabha

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday cautioned that the ongoing US-Iran conflict could have long-lasting consequences, urging citizens and state governments to remain prepared for potential economic and supply chain disruptions.

Speaking in the Rajya Sabha, the Prime Minister highlighted concerns over energy supply, inflation, and broader economic stability, noting that the global crisis in West Asia could significantly impact India.

Call for National Preparedness

Addressing the Upper House, Modi emphasized the need for collective readiness. He assured that the central government is actively working to manage the situation and safeguard national interests.

“I urge citizens to be prepared for every challenge. The impact of this war may be long-lasting, but the government is fully alert and committed to protecting the nation’s interests,” he said.

Focus on Energy and Inflation Risks

The Prime Minister underlined that disruptions in global energy supply chains could directly affect fuel availability and prices in India. With tensions escalating in key oil-producing regions, the risk of inflationary pressure remains a major concern.

He reiterated that the government is closely monitoring developments and taking necessary steps to ensure stability in essential supplies.

Appeal for Cooperative Federalism

Modi called on state governments to work in coordination with the Centre, stressing the importance of a unified approach during crises. Drawing parallels with the COVID-19 pandemic response, he urged states to act proactively.

“The challenges ahead will test us. States must work together as one team, just as we did during the pandemic,” he said.

Protecting Vulnerable Groups

Highlighting the social impact of such crises, the Prime Minister pointed out that labourers, migrant workers, and economically weaker sections are often the most affected.

He urged state authorities to implement measures to protect these groups and ensure their welfare during uncertain times.

Warning Against Black Marketing

Modi also warned against the possibility of black marketing and hoarding during periods of instability. He directed state governments to remain vigilant and take strict action against any such practices.

“Authorities must ensure that black marketing does not take place and that essential commodities remain accessible to all,” he added.

Conclusion

The Prime Minister’s address underscores growing concerns over the global ripple effects of the US-Iran conflict. With energy security and inflation risks looming, the government is focusing on preparedness, coordination, and safeguarding vulnerable populations to navigate the challenges ahead.
