Rajasthan Royals sold for Rs 15286 crore, becomes the most expensive team of IPL
New Delhi, 25 March 2026: Rajasthan Royals team has been sold for US$1.63 billion. A consortium led by American industrialist Kal Somani has purchased the RR franchise for approximately Rs 15,286 crore. Kal Somanini also owns companies like IntraEdge, Academiaan and Truyo.AI. He is backed by American businessman Rob Walton, who comes from the prestigious Walmart family. He is reported to have bought 100 percent stake in Rajasthan Royals.
This is the biggest deal in the history of IPL, making Rajasthan Royals the most expensive team in the Indian Premier League. After IPL 2026, the Rajasthan team will be managed by new owners. Kal Somani is a shareholder in Rajasthan Royals since 2021. Discussions regarding this deal have been going on for the last six months.
Talking about Rajasthan Royals, they will be led by Riyan Parag in IPL 2026. Sanju Samson, who led the team last season, has now gone to Chennai Super Kings. All-rounder Sam Curran is already out due to injury. Along with Curran, Ravindra Jadeja also joined the Rajasthan team as part of the Samson trade deal.
Before the deal was finalized, Manoj Badale had the largest stake in the Rajasthan Royals team. Recently, Rajasthan Royals received a $1.7 billion offer from Columbia Pacific Capital Partners, but it was rejected due to implementation issues.
Meanwhile, discussions are also going on regarding the sale of Royal Challengers Bangalore. With Rajasthan Royals having sold for over Rs 15,000 crore, it is expected that the RCB franchise can easily cross the $2 billion mark.
