Asiya Andrabi Sentenced To Life Imprisonment Under Uapa Links With Hafiz Saeed And Syed Salahuddin Exposed
In an important case related to terrorism, a Delhi court has sentenced Kashmiri separatist leader and Dukhtaran-e-Millat chief Asiya Andrabi to life imprisonment under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). The court has also sentenced his associates Sophie Fahimida and Nahida Nasreen to 30-30 years of imprisonment in the same case.
The sentence was pronounced by Additional Sessions Judge Chander Jeet Singh, who gave the verdict after detailed debate on the length of the sentence. Earlier on January 14, all three were convicted under various sections of the UAPA, including sections 20 (membership of a terrorist organisation), 38 (connections with a terrorist organisation) and 39 (support to a terrorist organisation).
The court also found the trio guilty under several sections of the Indian Penal Code, including sections 153A (promoting enmity between communities), 153B (acts prejudicial to national integration), 120B (criminal conspiracy), 505 (statements creating public nuisance) and 121A (conspiracy to wage war against the state).
During sentencing, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) sought the maximum penalty, arguing that Andrabi’s activities amounted to waging war against India. The agency said that strict punishment is necessary in such cases so that anti-national conspiracies can be effectively stopped and national sovereignty can be protected.
Investigation revealed that Asiya Andrabi had deep connections with international and cross-border networks. According to the inquiry report, Andrabi was in touch with senior leaders of Pakistan, including former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his foreign policy advisor Sartaj Aziz. Apart from this, he also had communication with the officials of Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi.
The investigation also revealed that Andrabi had links with leaders of banned terrorist organizations such as Jamaat-ud-Dawa chief Hafiz Saeed and Hizbul Mujahideen’s Syed Salahuddin. According to the report, he made compromises with these people regarding the Kashmir issue and tried to increase pressure in international forums, especially the United Nations.
It has been proven in the case that Andrabi had expressed dissatisfaction with Pakistan for not showing expected activeness on Kashmir issue and maintained these contacts for years.
