Jaishankar cornered Pakistan in all party meeting, said- ‘We cannot be a broker country’

Amidst the increasing tension in West Asia, the all-party meeting called by the Central Government was concluded on Wednesday. This important meeting was chaired by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, in which many senior ministers including Home Minister Amit Shah and Foreign Minister Jaishankar participated. The government assured all political parties that there is no need for any kind of panic in the country and the energy supply is completely secure.

Discussion on the situation in the Strait of Hormuz

It was told that there has been a significant increase in domestic LPG production and it has reached almost 60 percent. The situation in the Strait of Hormuz was also discussed in the meeting, where the movement of ships was affected due to tensions related to Iran. The Foreign Minister informed that four Indian ships have arrived safely, while other ships are also expected to arrive soon. At the same time, regarding Indian citizens stranded in Gulf countries, the government said that so far about 4.25 lakh people have been brought back safely and this process is continuing.

The issue of Pakistan offering mediation in the Iran crisis also came up in the meeting. On this, the government clarified that Pakistan has been trying to play such a role for a long time, but India will not be a part of such ‘middleman’ diplomacy. This comment came at a time when Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had offered to host talks to end the conflict, which was also shared by US President Trump.

What did Kiran Rijiju say?

After this meeting which lasted for about two hours, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said that the government answered all the questions and doubts in detail. He said that the opposition parties seemed satisfied with India’s preparations and the steps taken. Many leaders also talked about giving full support to the government in the time of crisis.

However, political allegations and counter-allegations were also seen regarding the meeting. Congress and other opposition parties raised questions on Prime Minister Modi’s absence, calling it a late step. Congress leader Manickam Tagore and Samajwadi Party’s Dimple Yadav expressed concern over the foreign policy of the government.

At the same time, the government rejected these criticisms and said that India is continuously making active diplomatic efforts and is in touch with all the parties. Union Minister Prahlad Joshi accused the opposition of making irresponsible statements and appealed to maintain national unity.
