Indian films dominate Netflix global charts with top 3 sweep

Mumbai: Indian cinema has achieved a major global milestone, with three films securing the top positions on Netflix’s Global Top 10 Films (Non-English) chart in a remarkable week for the industry.

Top three spots claimed by Indian titles

The Tamil film Made In Korea claimed the No. 1 position, followed by the Hindi film Border 2 at No. 2 and Dhurandhar at No. 3.

Adding to the success, another Tamil film, With Love, also featured in the Top 10 at the seventh position, underlining the strong presence of Indian content across languages.

Strong week for Indian cinema globally

This marks one of the most successful weeks for Indian films on the global streaming charts, reflecting a growing appetite for regional and Hindi cinema among international audiences.

Industry observers note that such a clean sweep of the top three spots is rare and signals a significant shift in global viewing trends, where non-English content is increasingly dominating mainstream platforms.

Consistent rise in global popularity

The success did not emerge overnight. Several Indian films, including Haq, Saiyaara, Jolly LLB and Baramulla, have previously recorded multi-week runs on Netflix’s Global Top 10 chart.

Additionally, titles such as Inspector Zende and Idli Kadai have trended in over 15 countries, showcasing the consistent international traction Indian films are gaining.

New milestones for regional cinema

In another notable achievement, Accused, starring Konkona Sen Sharma and Pratibha Ranta, became the first Indian film to reach audiences in 72 countries during its opening week.

Meanwhile, the Gujarati-language horror film Vash Level 2 emerged as a surprise hit, trending in the Top 10 across eight countries.

Changing global viewing patterns

The achievement reflects a broader transformation in global entertainment consumption. Audiences are increasingly embracing diverse storytelling beyond language barriers, aided by subtitles and dubbing.

Data suggests that since July 2021, the number of Indian titles appearing in Netflix’s Global Top 10 charts has increased nearly six-fold. Notably, at least one Indian film or series has featured on the list every week since 2024.

Conclusion

The dominance of Indian films across the top three positions highlights the growing global influence of the country’s film industries. With strong storytelling, diverse genres and expanding international reach, Indian cinema is steadily cementing its place on the global entertainment stage.
