Didn’t get a chance in IPL but luck made him the chairman of RCB.
New Delhi: Just before the beginning of the Indian Premier League 2026, Royal Challengers Bengaluru has taken a step that has shocked both the cricket and business world. There has been a change in the ownership of the team and now its command is in the hands of a person who himself was longing to get a chance on the field. This is the story of Aryaman Birla who, despite being a part of the IPL team at one time, could not make it to the playing eleven but today has become the chairman of the most expensive team of the same league.
In the 2018 IPL auction, Rajasthan Royals bought Aryaman Birla for Rs 30 lakh. At that time he was only 20 years old and it was expected that he would get a chance soon. But the entire season passed and he could not play even a single match. The dream of getting on the field remained unfulfilled.
After this disappointment, he decided to say goodbye to cricket in 2019. This decision was not easy but he chose the path to carry forward his family business. Under the leadership of his father Kumar Mangalam Birla, Aditya Birla Group was already among the big companies of the country and Aryaman started making his new identity in this world.
Times changed and fate took a turn that no one had even imagined. Aditya Birla Group along with other investors bought RCB for about Rs 16660 crore. This deal became one of the biggest deals in IPL history. After this historic deal, Aryaman Birla was made the chairman of the team.
His relationship with cricket did not end completely. He played domestic cricket for Madhya Pradesh and also appeared in the Ranji Trophy. The special thing is that he has also opened with the current RCB captain Rajat Patidar. His first class career includes 414 runs in 9 matches which also include one century and one half-century.
Now his new role is not inside the field but in the boardroom where he will give direction to the team’s strategy and future. This journey is not just that of a player but is an example of a mindset where failure does not become the end but a new beginning.
The story of Aryaman Birla tells that if one path is closed, another path may bring an even greater opportunity. This player, who once waited for his debut, is today taking over the ownership of the entire team and has started his new innings on the biggest stage of IPL.
