21 year old Prince Deep nominated for two awards, said – ‘I am on the right path’
Double nomination at Hockey India Annual Awards strengthened self-confidence: Goalkeeper Prince Deep
New Delhi: Young goalkeeper Prince Deep Singh, who has received two nominations at the Hockey India Annual Awards despite not having made his debut for the senior team yet, said that this has strengthened his confidence in himself. 21-year-old Prince Deep, who is practicing in the Senior Men’s National Camp, has received nominations for the Hockey India Baljeet Singh Best Goalkeeper of the Year 2025 and Hockey India Jugraj Singh Best Emerging Player of the Year 2025 awards. These awards will be given here on Friday.
Prince Deep said, “I am very happy and feel proud. It takes time to get nominated for such awards but I got it quickly. It is very motivating to see good performances in tournaments and my name among the top goalkeepers.
He said, “India has excellent goalkeepers.” To get a nomination among them and that too before making his debut in the senior team, is special. This has given me confidence that I am on the right path. This is the biggest gift I have received from this honour. This left me with no doubt about myself and inspired me to do better in the future. Now I know I am on the right track and will continue to improve.”
Prince Deep has won gold at the 2024 FIH Junior Asia Cup, silver at the Johor Cup 2025 and bronze at the FIH Junior World Cup in Chennai last year. Prince Deep, a resident of Pathankot, started his career as a full back at Cheema Hockey Academy in Batala. He told, “I used to play as a goalkeeper in football and saved some good goals. Seeing my height, my coaches suggested me to do goalkeeping in hockey. That’s where it started.”
