Rules for gas refill booking have not changed, no need to panic: Petroleum Ministry!
The ministry said that in some news reports and social media posts, it was being claimed that under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, a new time limit of 45 days for LPG refill booking, 25 days for non-PMUY single cylinder and 35 days for double cylinder has been fixed. The government has termed these claims as completely false and misleading.
The ministry clarified that under the existing rules, the time limit for LPG refill booking is 25 days in urban areas and 45 days in rural areas only, and this applies equally to all types of connections.
The government has appealed to the citizens not to believe such rumors nor spread them further. Also, it has been advised to avoid unnecessary booking of gas cylinders in panic.
The Ministry has assured that there is sufficient stock of LPG available in the country and there is no situation of any shortage. The government said all the refineries in the country are working at high capacity and 18,700 tonnes of commercial LPG has been supplied till Monday.
According to Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary, Petroleum Ministry, there is also sufficient stock of petrol and diesel across the country and more than 1 lakh petrol pumps are operating normally. Along with this, PNG (Piped Natural Gas) connections are being expanded rapidly and 7,500 new connections have been given in just one day.
The government also informed that continuous efforts are being made to strengthen the supply of LPG and new sources are being added. States have been asked to further strengthen the monitoring and distribution system, so that the supply remains completely smooth.
