Jharkhand government is actively working to update the jail, prisoners will get these facilities
Jharkhand Govt: The state government has prepared a comprehensive plan regarding jail reforms in Jharkhand. Jharkhand government will take many important steps in this direction in the coming financial year. Important steps will be taken in this regard in the coming financial year. This decision includes construction of new prisons, repair of existing prisons and modernization of security-health facilities. The government has decided to spend about Rs 120 crore in this scheme.
The state government will start the process of acquiring land this year for the construction of new jails in Latehar, Pakur, Deoghar and Chatra. The purpose of this decision of the government is to reduce the pressure of the increasing number of prisoners by starting the construction work as soon as possible.
Plan for expansion of basic facilities
At present, many jails in Jharkhand have more prisoners than the prescribed capacity, due to which crowding in the jails is increasing. Keeping this in view, plans are being made to construct additional wards and expand basic facilities. Facilities like repair work, new prisoner wards, construction of boundary walls, toilets and kitchens will be developed in the existing jails. Apart from this, strict steps will also be taken to overcome the shortage of human resources in jails.
Emphasis will be given on modernization of jail
Jharkhand government is currently paying special attention to the modernization of jails. Projectors, computer systems, interactive LED displays will be installed in it. To strengthen health facilities, digital X-ray machines, hydraulic beds, stretchers and ECG machines will be purchased. To strengthen the security system of jails, CCTV cameras, electric ward barriers, electric fencing, guard monitoring system, access control, modern locking systems and biometric solutions will be implemented. Metal detector, X-ray baggage scanner and non-linear junction detector will also be purchased.
Reform work going on under the supervision of Supreme Court
Let us tell you, the process of jail reform is going on under the supervision of the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court has sought an updated report of the prisons from all the states and union territories by May 18, in which details of the situation till March 1, 2026 will have to be given. The report will include information like number of prisoners, capacity of jails, facilities for women prisoners and their children, measures to prevent overcrowding and jail staff.
