Google India’s top legal head Bijoya Roy resigns, difficulties increased amid challenges

Google India’s Top Legal Head, Bijoya Roy: The world’s leading tech company Google is facing a major change in leadership. The company’s India legal head Bijoy Roy has resigned after just 16 months in the company. This has raised new questions about the regulatory challenges facing the company, but Roy cited personal reasons for her resignation and according to a Reuters report, she will likely start her own venture.

According to reports, Bejoy Roy’s departure is also worrying for Google because the company currently does not even have a ‘Government Relations Head’. Last year, Srinivas Reddy had resigned from this post, which has not been filled yet.

Roy’s resignation is a high-profile development as it comes at a critical time when Google is facing several challenges in India. It is already facing regulatory pressure, and now does not even have a leader with government ties.

India is a very important market for Google. Most of the smartphones run on Google’s operating system Android but here the company is struggling on these fronts. Google’s legal battle with the Competition Commission of India (CCI) continues. Legal challenges are also emerging regarding using data to train Artificial Intelligence (AI). From February 2026, the rules for removing content for tech companies have become stricter than ever, which has increased operational pressure.

Experts believe that the absence of top legal and policy officers can create problems for Google in coordinating with the Indian government. Especially when the government is constantly updating digital laws.
