PM Modi will hold a meeting with Chief Ministers on Friday amid Middle East crisis
New Delhi, 26 March. Amidst the ongoing tension in West Asia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair a meeting with Chief Ministers on Friday. PM Modi, who has already addressed the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, will review the preparedness of the states in this meeting in view of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
According to sources, the meeting will focus on ensuring synergy in efforts driven by the spirit of ‘Team India’ in view of Iran maintaining its control over the vital Strait of Hormuz and affecting energy supplies.
PM Modi had called for this approach during his speech in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, in which he said the effects of the war were likely to last for a long time. He urged everyone to work together. Encouraging state governments to maintain India’s strong growth momentum, PM Modi recalled the exemplary ‘Team India’ spirit displayed during the COVID-19 pandemic, when the Center and states collaborated in testing, vaccination and supply of essential commodities.
Meanwhile, the government on Thursday said the country has fuel reserves of about 60 days and there is no shortage of petrol, diesel or cooking gas (LPG). The government described reports of fuel shortage as a ‘deliberate misinformation campaign’ aimed at creating panic among the people.
Iran allowed five countries including India to pass through Hormuz
It is noteworthy that Iran has allowed ‘friendly countries’ like India, China, Russia, Pakistan and Iraq to use the Strait of Hormuz for commercial shipping. Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi gave this information.
Global oil and gas prices have surged after Iran blocked the Strait of Hormuz. The Strait of Hormuz is a narrow shipping route between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, through which about 20 percent of the world’s oil and LNG (liquefied natural gas) are transported.
