Strong earthquake hits Japan, Honshu coast shook with a magnitude of 6.2; There was chaos in the entire area

Honshu Earthquake 6.2 Magnitude: The earth trembled once again on Thursday in Japan, one of the most active seismic areas in the world. A powerful earthquake of 6.2 magnitude was felt in the Honshu region near the east coast of Japan in the evening local time. According to the German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ), the epicenter of this earthquake was at a shallow depth of just 10 kilometers from the ground.

Differing reports on earthquake intensity and epicenter

Various global agencies have shared different data regarding the intensity and depth of the earthquake. According to India’s National Center for Seismology (NCS), the quake measured 6.3 magnitude and its epicenter was located at a depth of 60 kilometers in the North Pacific Ocean, about 517 kilometers north-east of Tokyo. Despite this slight difference in intensity, the tremors were felt in many parts of the region.

no big loss

It is a matter of relief that no major loss of life or property or casualties has been reported so far. However, after the earthquake, there was an atmosphere of panic for some time among the people living in the coastal areas. Japanese officials and scientists are currently monitoring the situation closely as there is a strong possibility of aftershocks in the coming hours.

Japan located in the Ring of Fire

Japan is geographically located on the Pacific Ocean’s seismic zone ‘Ring of Fire’, due to which it is among the countries in the world where earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur most frequently. Here, due to movements within the earth, earthquakes keep occurring again and again, which poses a threat to human life and infrastructure.

In view of this sensitive situation, Japan has developed very strict and advanced standards in the field of disaster management and security. Buildings are constructed with special techniques so that they can withstand earthquake shocks while people are also regularly trained to deal with disasters.

Appeal to be prepared for emergencies

Keeping in mind the frequent seismic activities, government agencies and local administrations keep issuing warnings from time to time. Authorities have appealed to citizens to remain alert, follow safety instructions and be prepared for any emergency so that possible damage can be minimized.
