Big relief for air passengers, new refund rules of DGCA come into force

Dgca: There is news of great relief for air passengers. Aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has implemented new rules related to air ticket refunds from 26 March 2026. After long complaints of delay in refunds and charging extra charges by airlines, strict rules have now been implemented. With these changes, getting money back on ticket cancellation will become easier, faster and transparent than before.

Refund deadline

According to the new rules, there will be no delay in refund now. If booking through credit card, it is mandatory to return the money within 7 days, while those booking tickets through cash will get an immediate refund. Whereas on booking through travel agent or online portal, refund will have to be given within 14 working days. The special thing is that even after purchasing the ticket from the agent, the responsibility will remain with the airline.

Dgca: No processing fees now

Airlines will no longer be able to charge any extra fee in the name of refund processing. This means that passengers will get their full money back without any hidden charges, which will increase transparency.

DGCA: Full refund and free cancellation facility

The refund will include all charges like ticket fare, taxes, UDF, ADF and PSF, and this rule will also apply to non-refundable tickets. Also, tickets can be canceled or changed without additional charges within 48 hours of booking, although certain time restrictions will apply on domestic and international flights.

Credit Shell and Transparency of Information

Now airlines will not be able to force passengers to take credit shells. If passengers wish, they can withdraw the full amount. Apart from this, it has been made mandatory for airlines to provide complete details of refund and cancellation charges in advance.

Cancellation Charges, Name Correction and Emergency Relief

Dgca: Airlines will no longer be able to charge cancellation charges more than the base fare and fuel surcharge. The name mistake in the ticket can be corrected within 24 hours without any charges. At the same time, a provision has been made to give refund or credit shell to the passengers in case of medical emergency, so that the passengers can get relief. To There will be great relief.
