Chandigarh administration has given green signal to the Excise Policy 2026-27. Online payment has also been made mandatory at liquor shops. This step of the administration will bring transparency in transactions. Payment can also be made through POS machine and card.
According to India Today report, the Chandigarh administration has improved the rules with the aim of increasing consumer convenience and revenue. Now apart from local markets, shopping malls and petrol pumps, departmental stores will also be able to sell beer and foreign liquor. However, everyone must obtain the necessary licenses. At the same time, restaurants, hotels and bars will have to install alcohol testing machines so that consumers can check their alcohol level.

Liquor contracts auctioned in two phases
Chandigarh Administration conducted the e-auction in two phases under the Excise Policy 2026-27. In the first phase on March 19, an amount of Rs 487.68 crore was received in the auction of 82 shops. This reserved amount is about 29 percent more than Rs 376.24 crore. An amount of Rs 3.90 crore was collected as participation fee.

Revenue increased by about 28 percent
11 retail liquor shops were bid in the second phase of auction. The administration received a total amount of Rs 62.38 crore, which was 15.64% more than the reserve price of Rs 53.94 crore. Received Rs 38 lakh as participation fee. A total amount of Rs 550.06 crore was received from the bids of 93 liquor shops in both the phases. This amount is 28 percent more than the combined reserve price of Rs 430.18 crore. If we talk about participation fee, Chandigarh administration has collected a total amount of Rs 4.28 crore.
