Fuel and gas supply situation in India
government clarity
On Thursday, the government made it clear that the supply of petroleum and LPG in India is completely secure. People have been urged not to be influenced by deliberately spreading rumors aimed at creating unnecessary fear.
storage status
The Petroleum Ministry informed that the country has a storage capacity of 74 days, out of which about 60 days of stock is currently available. This includes crude oil, petrol-diesel and strategic storage. The ministry also informed that sufficient quantity of fuel is available in all retail fuel outlets in the country.
supply situation
The government said in a statement that there is no shortage of petrol, diesel or LPG anywhere in the country. Nearly two months’ supply is assured for every citizen, no matter what the global situation may be.
purchase of crude oil
The purchase of crude oil for the next two months has already been decided. The government also said that India is completely safe in the coming months and the talk of stock depletion is wrong.
international status
In many countries of the world, fuel prices are increasing and rationing is being implemented, but there is no such situation in India. The government said panic buying in some places was due to rumors spread on social media.
Preparation of oil companies
The government said that oil companies have increased the credit given to petrol pumps to three days, so that there is no shortage of fuel at any pump due to lack of working capital.
supply situation
Although there is tension in the Strait of Hormuz, India is now sourcing crude oil from more than 41 countries and the supply is higher than before. All the refineries are working at more than 100 percent capacity and the supply for the next 60 days is already fixed.
lpg status
There is no shortage of LPG, as domestic production has been increased by 40 percent to 50 TMT daily. The total requirement is around 80 TMT, leaving the import requirement only at 30 TMT.
import information
800 TMT of LPG has already been shipped to India from countries like USA, Russia and Australia. According to the government, LPG supply for at least one month is completely assured.
gas delivery
Oil companies are delivering more than 50 lakh cylinders daily. Along with this, the supply of commercial gas cylinders has been increased by 50 percent to stop black marketing.
PNG boost
The government is promoting Piped Natural Gas (PNG) because it is cheap and safe. India produces 92 million cubic meters of gas daily, while the total requirement is 191 million cubic meters.
PNG network expansion
PNG network has expanded rapidly in the country. While there were 57 areas in 2014, it has now reached more than 300 areas. Domestic PNG connections have increased from 25 lakh to more than 1.5 crore.
Government’s appeal
The government has clarified that PNG is not being promoted due to shortage of LPG, but it is a better option. The ministry has appealed to the people to rely only on government official sources for information related to fuel and gas.
