‘Ships of friendly countries will be able to pass’, Iran opened the door of Hormuz for 5 countries including India
Bureau Prayagraj- Amid the Middle East conflict, Iran has announced that it will not impose any restrictions on ships belonging to five friendly countries, including India, allowing them to pass through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, while access for other countries will be restricted. Despite the ongoing conflict in the region, ships from India as well as Russia, China, Pakistan and Iraq have been provided safe passage through this vital sea route.
Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi clarified in an interview with Iranian state television that the Strait of Hormuz has not been completely closed and that some countries with which Iran has friendly relations have been exempted from sanctions.
According to Iran’s official news agency, Araghchi said, “There is no reason to allow the enemy to pass through the strait. We have allowed the passage of some countries that we consider friends. We have allowed the passage of China, Russia, India, Iraq and Pakistan.”
At the same time, he indicated that ships belonging to countries that are considered enemies or that are involved in a current conflict will not be allowed to pass through the strait. He said ships from the United States, Israel and some Gulf countries, which are playing a role in the current crisis, would not be allowed to pass through the strait.
Araghchi expressed satisfaction over Iran’s control over the vital waterway, saying the country has demonstrated its authority in the region after decades when Iran initially announced a partial blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
