Assam city Guwahati is ready to organize a test match for the first time. This north-eastern city will host a red ball cricket match when the Test series between India and South Africa is played in November. This information was given by Devjit Saikia, Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Women’s World Cup is also to be held this year and Sakia had said that, for the first time, a World Cup match will be organized in Guwahati also.

Sakia had said that the second match of the two-match Test series between India and South Africa will be played at the Assam Cricket Association (ACA) in Guwahati from November 22. Sakia said that this will put Guwahati on the map of Test cricket. “Till now no Test match or World Cup match has been organized in Guwahati, but a decision has been taken in the BCCI Apex Council meeting held on Saturday and this year Guwahati will host both these matches,” Sakia said.

Sakia had said that five to six matches of the ICC Women’s World Cup will be held in Guwahati, which will be the first time that the region will host a World Cup match. Sakia said that the Women’s World Cup will be held from September 24 to November 2. Its program has not yet been finalized. However, Guwahati has been selected to organize it.

Saikia, former General Secretary of the Assam Cricket Association, thanked ICC President Jai Shah and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma for their support, due to which Guwahati emerged as a suitable venue to host cricket matches. The South African team will come to India for a series of two Tests, three ODIs and five T20 matches. This T20 series will give both the teams an opportunity to prepare for the T20 World Cup to be held in India next year.
