Netflix gave a shock to inflation, subscription prices will increase again in 2026, know how much the burden on your pocket will increase now.
News India Live, Digital Desk: The world’s largest OTT giant Netflix has given a big shock to its millions of users with the beginning of the year 2026. The company has announced an increase in the prices of all its subscription plans in many major markets including America. This is the second major price increase this year, which the company has justified in the name of ‘better content and new services’. This step of Netflix in the world of entertainment is being considered a signal for other streaming platforms also. However, news of both relief and concern is coming out for Indian users. Why did the prices increase? Preparation for investment of $20 billionNetflix has cited huge investment behind this increase in prices. The company has made it clear that in the year 2026, it plans to spend about $20 billion (about ₹1.6 lakh crore) on new formats like original shows, live sports events and video podcasts. Considering the recent increasing popularity of live events, the company no longer wants to be limited to only films and web series. Experts believe that after losing a big deal like Warner Bros., Netflix is now putting pressure directly on customers’ pockets to increase its revenue. New Rates: Premium Plan Reaches Close to $27 According to the new rates implemented in the US, Netflix’s premium (4K) plan has now increased from $24.99 to $26.99 (approximately ₹ 2,250) per month. At the same time, the most popular Standard plan will now be available for $19.99 (approximately ₹ 1,660) instead of $17.99. The cheapest ad-supported plan also increased by $1 to $8.99. Not only this, now users will have to pay up to $10 extra for adding an ‘extra member’ i.e. a friend outside the house to the account. The new prices have been implemented with immediate effect for new customers, while old customers will be informed a month in advance through email. Will prices increase in India too? For the Indian audience, the news is a relief for now. No change in Netflix prices in India has been officially announced yet. Netflix’s mobile plan in India remains stable at ₹149 and premium plan at ₹649 per month. Amidst the tough competition in India from rivals like JioHotstar, Amazon Prime and Jio Cinema, Netflix does not want to take the risk of increasing prices here at the moment. However, considering the rising prices globally, it is being speculated that small changes may be seen in the Indian market in the coming few months.
