Delhi Assembly passes resolution warning Kejriwal, Sisodia!

The Delhi Assembly on Friday warned former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and two other AAP leaders for spreading false and baseless rumors about the ‘hanging house’.

This warning was issued by passing a resolution under Rule 77 (1) (A) in the Assembly. Former Chairman Ram Niwas Goyal and former Deputy Chairman Rakhi Birla were also warned.

Chairman Vijender Gupta said that the Assembly has the right to give harsh punishment, but he showed judicial restraint in this matter and issued only a formal warning so that the dignity of the Assembly is maintained.

He said that the false allegation of ‘hanging house’ is insulting to the history of this historical building. This building is associated with India’s freedom struggle and it is not right to associate it with any hanging house.

The Chairman said that this building was the only assembly ever seen by Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhiji told in his autobiography ‘The Story of My Experiment with Truth’ that he heard the debate on the Rowlatt Bill here in March 1919.

He told that the Rowlatt Act was passed in this assembly on 18 March 1919 and after this Gandhiji started the non-cooperation movement. The firing on peaceful protesters at Chandni Chowk on 30 March 1919, which Gandhiji described as a preparation for the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, was the result of the meetings of this assembly.

The Chairman also reminded that in the War Conference of 1918, 13 lakh Indians were recruited for the First World War and many rural youth from villages like Bawna, Kanjhawala, Alipore, Badli, Najafgarh and Mehrauli sacrificed their lives.

He said that the lies spread regarding the hanging house will be specifically highlighted in the third report of the committee.

The Assembly Secretariat and the Committee will ensure that the sanctity of the House is never affected by false information or disregard of officials.
