IPL Captains Meet: Captains raised questions on impact player rule, BCCI took this big decision

Indian Premier League 2026: The countdown for the 19th season of IPL has started and before the start of the tournament, the captains of all the teams gathered in Mumbai for an important meeting. The first match of this season will be played between RCB and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Before the meeting, a photoshoot of the captains also took place, pictures of which are becoming increasingly viral on social media. During this, light conversations and fun were also seen among the players.

This time’s meeting was special in many ways. For the first time in IPL history, the captains of all the 10 teams during the photoshoot were Indians. Many important rules related to the match were discussed in the meeting. The meeting was conducted by match referee panel chief Javagal Srinath and elite umpire Nitin Menon.

BCCI has made changes in some rules related to ball change and training for this season. However, the biggest discussion was about the Impact Player rule. All the captains expressed their opinion on this rule and expressed concern about its impact.

Captains’ displeasure over impact player rule

It was revealed in the meeting that many captains are not satisfied with the impact player rule. He believes that this rule affects the balance of the game. According to the captains, this upsets the balance between batting and bowling, thereby changing the traditional format of the match.

Under this rule, teams can make changes in their playing eleven during the match. Before the start of the match, teams have to name five players who can be included as impact players if needed.

What was BCCI’s decision?

Despite the objections of the captains, the BCCI has decided to continue this rule. The board has made it clear that the Impact Player rule will remain in force till the year 2027. This rule was first implemented in IPL in the year 2023 and has been in constant discussion since then. The BCCI believes that this rule increases strategic options in the game, while some players and captains consider it challenging in terms of balance.
