Ticket cancelled, money still deducted! You will be surprised to know the new refund rules of Railways –

Railway Rules For Ticket Cancellation: If you have recently canceled a train ticket and got less money back than expected, then do not be surprised. Indian Railways has set timing based rules regarding ticket cancellation and refund, due to which the pockets of passengers are being directly affected. Let us understand in simple language how much refund is given when the ticket is cancelled.

Actually, according to the rules of IRCTC and Railways, the entire game of ticket cancellation depends on “time”. If you do not cancel the ticket in time, there may be a huge reduction in the refund.

If canceled 72 hours in advance
If you cancel the ticket 72 hours before the scheduled time of the train, you get the maximum refund. In this situation only a nominal cancellation charge is deducted, which varies according to the class.

between 24 to 72 hours
If you cancel the ticket between 24 to 72 hours, the refund is slightly reduced. During this period, the cancellation charge increases and your pocket is slightly affected.

between 8 and 24 hours
This time is considered the most important. If the ticket is canceled between 8 to 24 hours, you may get deducted up to 25% of the total fare. That means now the loss becomes clearly visible.

less than 8 hours left
If you cancel your ticket less than 8 hours in advance, your refund may be limited or, in many cases, not available at all. This rule is more strict especially on confirmed tickets.

after the chart is made
Normally no refund is given if the ticket is canceled after the train chart has been prepared. However, in certain circumstances a claim can be made by filing TDR (Ticket Deposit Receipt).
