Grand opening of Valmiki Ramayana on Ram Navami. The divine story will resonate in theaters before Ranbir Kapoor’s Ramayana.
New Delhi . On the auspicious occasion of Ram Navami, Indian cinema got a glimpse of another grand mythological presentation when the first look of the film Valmiki Ramayan was released. The poster revealed on this special occasion aroused both faith and curiosity in the minds of the audience. The poster shows a glimpse of the feet of Lord Rama which highlights the spiritual depth of the film and its emotional side. This film is being directed by Bhavna Talwar and it will be released in theaters on October 2, 2026.
This film is also considered special because it will hit the big screen before Ranbir Kapoor’s much talked about film Ramayana. While on one hand there is already a huge buzz about Ranbir Kapoor’s film, on the other hand the entry of Valmiki Ramayan has made this competition more interesting. Now the audience is going to get a chance to see two different interpretations of Ramayana in the same year.
The team of Valmiki Ramayan is also leaving no stone unturned to make it special. The names associated with the film itself give an idea of its grandeur. Famous production designer Sabu Cyril, who has proved his art in films like Baahubali, is a part of this project. Apart from this, Binod Pradhan is handling the responsibility of cinematography while Oscar winner Resul Pookutty is associated with sound design. The film’s screenplay is written by Anand Neelakantan and dialogues are composed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi. Due to this strong team, the audience has high expectations from the film.
However, with the announcement of the film, mixed reactions have also been seen on social media. Some users praised the look of the film and described it as grand and spiritual, while some raised questions whether the film would be animation-based or would AI be used in it. Many people also said that the originality of the story should not be affected amidst the continuous production of Ramayana films.
On the other hand, Ranbir Kapoor’s Ramayan directed by Nitesh Tiwari also remains in the news. The film will be released in two parts and its first part is set to hit the theaters on Diwali 2026. In this film, Ranbir Kapoor will be seen in the role of Lord Ram while popular South actress Sai Pallavi will play the role of Mother Sita. Apart from this, big names like Sunny Deol Yash and Lara Dutta are also included in it.
Overall, the year 2026 is going to be the name of Ramayana stories in Indian cinema. On one hand, Valmiki Ramayan will try to attract the audience with its traditional and classical presentation, while on the other hand, Ranbir Kapoor’s film will try to woo the new generation with modern technology and a big star cast. Now it remains to be seen which presentation the audience likes more and which film wins at the box office.
