Zojila avalanche: devastation on Srinagar-Leh highway, 7 dead, rescue operation underway

A sudden massive avalanche on the Srinagar-Leh highway in Zojila Pass of Ladakh caused a major accident. Many vehicles were hit by this avalanche, in which so far 7 people have died, 5 people are injured and one person is still reported missing. After the accident, the highway has been completely closed and relief work is going on continuously.

Avalanche fell on the highway

According to the administration, this avalanche occurred near ‘Zero Point’ and ‘Captain-Turn’ of Zojila Pass, where suddenly a large chunk of snow fell on the vehicles passing by. A senior police officer said that a passenger vehicle was completely hit by it, due to which many people died on the spot. The injured were immediately admitted to nearby hospitals.

Leh news: Rescue operation intensified

After the incident, Police, Army, Border Roads Organization (BRO), SDRF and Sonamarg and Dras administration together started a large-scale rescue operation. With the help of machines, the work of removing snow and rescuing buried people is going on continuously. It is feared that some vehicles may still be buried under the snow, due to which the number of deaths may increase.

Leh news: Union Minister expressed grief

Expressing grief over this accident, Jitendra Singh said that the news of death of 7 people in this avalanche at Zojila Pass is very sad. He expressed condolences to the bereaved families and said that all possible help is being provided to the injured.

LG’s high alert instructions

Have news: Ladakh LG VK Saxena has also expressed grief over the incident and directed the officials to immediately reach the spot and speed up the relief work. He said that all disaster relief agencies were put on alert Is And he himself is keeping an eye on the situation.
