‘Internet war’ breaks out under the sea! Danger of digital blackout looms over India due to Iran-US tension, Internet may be shut down in the country –
Internet Blackout: Amidst the increasing tension in West Asia, a new threat has now arisen before the world – ‘Internet Blackout’. The impact of the ongoing conflict between Iran and America is now visible on the internet cables laid under the sea. Experts believe that if these cables are damaged, it can have a direct impact on the digital services of many countries including India.
In fact, about 95% of the world’s internet traffic travels through fiber optic cables laid under the sea. These cables connect Europe, Asia and the Middle East. India’s internet network is also largely dependent on these international cables. In such a situation, if for some reason these cables get damaged or are targeted, then the internet speed may slow down or may even be completely interrupted.
Its biggest impact will be on the lives of common people. Online payment systems like UPI, net banking and digital wallet services may come to a standstill. Apart from this, e-commerce sites like Amazon, Flipkart may also be affected, due to which there may be disruption in purchasing and supply chain.
Not only this, stock markets, airlines systems, and even government digital services can also be disrupted. This will also have a direct impact on the IT sector and the work of freelancers, due to which there is a possibility of economic loss.
Experts say that the Indian government and telecom companies are alert about this threat and are working on preparing alternative networks. But if there is damage to cables on a large scale, complete recovery will not be easy.
This situation has once again raised the question whether the world has become too digitally dependent? And could such ‘digital wars’ become common in the future?
At present, it is important for the common people to have alternative arrangements for essential tasks instead of completely relying on digital services. Because if the internet stops, its impact can reach every household.
