Election Commission’s action on Mamta’s statement… Accused of saying controversial things about CRPF, report sought

New Delhi: As the assembly elections in West Bengal are approaching, the political atmosphere of the state is becoming more heated. On one hand, election rallies have intensified, while on the other hand, violence and allegations and counter-allegations have increased the tension. Meanwhile, the Election Commission of India has taken a strict stance and taken many important steps. The Election Commission has sought a report regarding a recent speech of Mamata Banerjee. This speech was given during a public meeting in Naxalbari area of Darjeeling.

The Commission says that in the video of the speech, Mamata Banerjee is allegedly seen saying controversial things about the security forces, especially the CRPF. He also asked women to be present at polling stations and use household items to protect themselves if necessary. Considering this matter as serious, the Commission has asked the Chief Electoral Officer of the state to give a detailed report of the entire incident. The Commission wants to know whether the things said in the speech violate the election code of conduct or not.

Action against police officer after violence

Meanwhile, the Election Commission has taken strict action after the violence in Basanti area of South 24 Parganas district. Inspector Avijit Paul, in-charge of Basanti police station, has been suspended with immediate effect. This action took place after the incident in which violence broke out during the election campaign and many people including policemen were injured.

According to the commission, the police officer was already aware of the possible tension, but he did not make adequate security arrangements. Even though central security forces were available, their help was not taken. The Commission has considered this as serious negligence in duty.

BJP’s attack on TMC

Political rhetoric regarding this incident has also intensified. BJP leader Biplab Kumar Deb has made serious allegations against the ruling Trinamool Congress. He said the party workers were attacked in a planned manner and when the police tried to intervene, they were also attacked. BJP alleges that the atmosphere of violence in the state is the result of government policies.
