Tragic accident in Odisha: 5 killed in Nayagarh bus accident, storm snatches 3 more lives in Mayurbhanj-Puri
Bhubaneswar. Five people were killed and more than 30 passengers were injured when a tourist bus overturned in Odisha’s Nayagarh district in the early hours of Saturday. At the same time, three more people lost their lives due to the strong storm in Mayurbhanj and Puri districts.
Bus accident in Nayagarh: high speed becomes fatal-
According to the police, the accident took place around 2 am in the Daspalla area of Hanuman Ghati Road, when the bus carrying 55 passengers lost control while taking a turn and overturned. The deceased include Hari Patra, Lakshmi Patra, Suprabha Sahu, Sumati and driver Praveen Kumar Sahu. The injured were immediately admitted to the Community Health Centre. In the preliminary investigation, high speed is being said to be the main reason for the accident.
Injured passenger Arya Patra told that the bus was going at a speed of 100 km per hour and suddenly overturned. Some passengers fell out, while many got buried under the bus. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh to the families of the deceased from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida also expressed condolences and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.
Storm havoc in Mayurbhanj and Puri-
Meanwhile, the strong storm that struck on Friday night caused heavy damage in Mayurbhanj and Puri districts. Two people riding a motorcycle died during strong winds and rain in Baripada, Mayurbhanj. The deceased were identified as Ramdas Hansda and Nagen Murmu.
Jagannath Behera died when a coconut tree fell due to strong wind in Alis village of Pipili police station area of Puri district. The administration said that houses in Kanas, Delanga and Satyabadi areas were also damaged.
In Odisha, this accident and natural disaster together have presented a horrific scene of both human and property loss.
