AAP is preparing to dispose of Congress in Gujarat before 2027, understand the plan
Aam Aadmi Party is working hard these days in Gujarat. There is still more than a year left for the Gujarat Assembly elections but Aam Aadmi Party leaders are continuously camping in Gujarat. BJP has been in power in Gujarat for three decades and Congress remains the main opposition party. Now Aam Aadmi Party is talking about changing this pattern and saying that like Punjab, the party should come out of BJP-Congress and give a chance to Aam Aadmi Party. Many big leaders including Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal are visiting Gujarat.
In such a situation, there is a big question in the minds of people whether the rise of Aam Aadmi Party is causing loss to BJP or Congress Party in Gujarat. Political experts make different claims regarding how much damage Aam Aadmi Party will be able to do, but everyone believes that AAP is expanding in Gujarat at the expense of Congress. The party is working on a strategy to defeat Congress and BJP in the civic elections to be held in Gujarat in April-May. If Aam Aadmi Party performs better than Congress in the civic elections, then the party will try to make next year’s assembly elections a contest between BJP and Aam Aadmi Party.

AAP beats Congress in survey
An organization named CIF has conducted a survey regarding Gujarat and it has come to light that the graph of AAP is continuously increasing in Gujarat. According to the survey, the vote share of Aam Aadmi Party in Gujarat has reached 24.8 percent. Whereas the vote share of Congress has fallen to 17.3 percent. That means Aam Aadmi Party has now become the second largest political party in Gujarat, leaving Congress behind.
Talking about Bharatiya Janata Party, according to the survey, BJP still remains the largest political party with 49.5 percent votes. However, a big change is being seen in the opposition camp and there is a direct contest between Aam Aadmi Party and BJP and Congress is seen lagging behind in this. According to the survey, the vote share of Aam Aadmi Party in Gujarat has reached 24.8 percent. Whereas the vote share of Congress has fallen to 17.3 percent.
What were the results in 2022?
In the 2022 assembly elections, Bharatiya Janata Party had got 156 seats out of 182 and Congress had got 17 seats. At the same time, Aam Aadmi Party had emerged as the third biggest force in the state and the party had won 5 seats. Apart from this, other candidates were victorious on 4 seats.
Why is AAP a threat to Congress?
Aam Aadmi Party is a big threat for the Congress Party because both AAP and Congress are eyeing anti-BJP votes. In the 2017 assembly elections, AAP’s influence was less in Gujarat and its impact is clearly visible on the vote share of Congress. Congress had secured 41 percent votes in 2017, but in 2021, when AAP contested the elections with strength in Gujarat, the vote percentage of the Congress party fell to only 27 percent.

AAP shows strength in civic elections
The next target of Aam Aamdi Party, which is trying to expand, is Gujarat. The State Election Commission in Gujarat has almost completed preparations for the elections of 15 Municipal Corporations, 84 Municipalities, 34 District Panchayats and 260 Tehsil Panchayats. Elections may be announced in the state in the first week of April and elections may be held in May. The announcement of these elections is still awaited but Aam Aadmi Party has also announced its 460 candidates. The party plans to field candidates on all 12,000 seats in municipal bodies across Gujarat.
Local body elections are usually contested by local and state unit leaders but Aam Aadmi Party is taking these elections as seriously as assembly elections. Along with the state leaders of the party, the central leadership is also active in the state. Punjab CM and former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal is holding rallies in Gujarat.
In a rally, Kejriwal alleged that in the last 30 years, BJP and Congress together have looted Gujarat and the tribal community has suffered the most. Kejriwal said that the people of Gujarat have now stood up against the oppression of BJP and are ready to bring change with the Aam Aadmi Party. Congress party is more troubled than BJP in Gujarat due to the activism of Aam Aadmi Party. Anti-BJP votes are shifting towards Aam Aadmi Party instead of Congress.
