Tamil Nadu elections: DMK will contest on 164 seats, CM Stalin will contest from his old seat Kolathur.

Chennai, 28 March. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin made an important announcement on Saturday and made it clear that his party DMK itself is going to contest elections on 164 seats this time. CM Stalin himself will contest from his old and trusted seat Kolathur. The formula that he has presented for his team and alliance, he himself has named ‘Maha-Maha Alliance’.

During the conversation regarding this election preparation, Stalin took a dig at his opponents and said, ‘Even though we were taking some time to bring our list, we have come latest. There were very patient talks with the alliance partners and without any discord, 70 seats have been left for the allies. In this big alliance, Congress has got 28 seats, while Premlata Vijaykant’s party DMDK has got 10 seats.

Congress left 70 seats including 28 for its allies.

If seen, this is not just distribution of seats but Stalin is calling it an ideological match. He believes that this alliance is not only to win elections, but to bring like-minded parties together. In this entire process, Stalin also made it clear that no matter how many allegations the opposition makes, the public is watching his work. Stalin is going to start his vigorous campaign from March 30, while his son and Deputy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin will take charge from March 31.

Stalin entering the field with a new and educated army

The most surprising thing in this DMK list of 164 candidates is that education has been given a lot of importance in it. This time, the party has left the old pattern and expressed confidence in professionals. This list includes 29 lawyers, 17 engineers, 15 doctors and 7 PhD holders. Not only this, there are about 60 faces who are getting a chance to contest elections for the first time. That means Stalin is preparing to enter the field with a new and educated army.

This time 18 women candidates are in the fray

Some major changes have also been seen in the equation of seats. Deputy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin will contest the elections again from his current seat Chepauk-Tiruvallikeni, but the seat of Minister Senthil Balaji has been changed. He will now compete from Coimbatore South instead of Karur. Apart from this, seasoned player of politics O. Panneerselvam (OPS) has been made the candidate from Bodinayakannur seat. Women’s participation has also been given attention and 18 women candidates have got the chance this time.

Talking about other alliance partners, VCK has been given eight seats, Left (CPI and CPIM) have been given five seats each and MDMK has been given four seats. Apart from this, small parties like IUML, MMK and SDPI have also been given a place in this ‘grand alliance’. Stalin’s confidence is reflected in the fact that he did not discriminate between the youth and women’s wing and tried to provide equal opportunities to all. Now it remains to be seen how much this latest and well-written formula of Stalin can do in the election results.
