JD Vance says US to get out of Iran ‘soon’ amid ongoing conflict
The United States’ military engagement with Iran is expected to continue for a short period before a planned withdrawal, according to Vice President JD Vance. His remarks, made during a podcast appearance, offer fresh insight into Washington’s strategy and timeline amid rising tensions in the Middle East.
US Strategy: Short-Term Action, Long-Term Deterrence
Speaking on a podcast with Benny Johnson, Vance stated that the administration of Donald Trump intends to sustain military operations briefly to ensure long-term stability.
According to Vance, the primary goal is to weaken Iran’s ability to pose future threats. He emphasized that the US is not seeking prolonged involvement in the region but rather a decisive operation that prevents recurring conflict.
“The President is going to keep at it for a little while longer to ensure that once we leave, we don’t have to do this again for a very, very long time,” Vance said.
No Long-Term US Presence in Iran
Vance made it clear that Washington has no intention of maintaining a long-term military presence in Iran. He highlighted that the objective is to “take care of business” quickly and exit without being drawn into an extended conflict.
“We’re not interested in being in Iran a year down the road, two years down the road. We’re going to be out of there soon,” he added.
This statement is likely aimed at addressing concerns over a prolonged war, especially given past US military engagements in the Middle East.
