In an interview to a news agency, the Chief Minister claimed that there was huge discontent within the Congress and almost 99 percent Hindu leaders and workers Now feeling suffocated there and want to leave the party. He predicted that after the results of this election, Congress will be limited to only a particular community.
“The disintegration of Congress has begun”
Describing the current situation of Congress as a ‘sinking ship’, Chief Minister Sharma said:
Migration of Hindu leaders: Citing veteran leaders who recently left Congress and joined BJP (like Pradyut Bardlai and Bhupen Kumar Borah), he said that self-respecting Assamese can no longer remain in Congress.
A community party: The CM taunted, “After the elections, Congress will be reduced to being only the representative of the ‘Mian’ community (in reference to illegal immigrants) in Assam. This party can now dream of forming a government not in India, but in Pakistan or Bangladesh.”
Opposition hits back: “This is politics of polarization”
Congress and the opposition alliance have reacted strongly to this statement of the Chief Minister.
