These players will be absent from MI’s first match
According to a report, Mumbai Indians fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah and two other key players were absent from the team’s mandatory practice session at the Wankhede Stadium a few days before the upcoming match. Mitchell Santner recently led the New Zealand team to the finals of the T20 World Cup. He then featured in the T20I series against South Africa, where he was rested for two matches after playing three matches. He will soon join the Mumbai team, but no information regarding his arrival has been revealed.
Will Jacks will be unavailable due to personal reasons and may join the team late. Jacks was outstanding in the T20 World Cup and played a key role in England’s run to the semi-finals. Jacks was included in the England squad for the semi-final against India and then flew to England on a chartered flight with the team. It is not yet confirmed whether Santner and Jacks have reached India.
What is the status of the MI team?
Ahead of Sunday’s match, both MI and KKR practiced at the Wankhede Stadium. In the nets, MI’s Rohit Sharma opened the batting first and batted for an hour, mainly facing the fast bowling. Shardul Thakur and Hardik Pandya bowled powerfully in front of him. Hardik bowled for almost an hour and also tried to bat. In the final phase of practice, MI pacers Deepak Chahar, Ashwini Kumar and Mohammad Izar bowled under the supervision of bowling coach Lasith Malinga. So it is likely that the absence of these two players in the opening match will not make much of a difference to MI’s team strength. How the team performs now will be clear in the coming days.
