Tragic accident in Odisha: Tourist bus overturns in ditch, 5 dead, 10 in critical condition

Digital Desk, Busted. Five people died, while 10 others were seriously injured in a horrific road accident in Odisha’s Nayagarh district late Friday night. The accident occurred near Takara Valley on National Highway-57 at around 1 am. According to the information, a tourist bus going from Berhampur to Harishankar went out of control and first hit a rock and then overturned. There were about 60 passengers in the bus. The accident was so severe that five people including the driver died on the spot.

The deceased have been identified as Hari Patra, Lakshmi Patra, Suprabha Sahu, Sumati Sahu and bus driver Prabeen Sahu. The condition of 10 passengers injured in the accident is said to be critical, who have been admitted to Nayagarh District Headquarters Hospital. Around 45 other injured are being treated at Daspalla Community Health Centre. As soon as information about the incident was received, Daspalla police reached the spot and started relief work. The police took possession of the bodies and sent them for post-mortem and immediately took the injured to the hospital.

In the preliminary investigation, the cause of the accident is believed to be high speed and dangerous road in the valley area. However, the police is investigating the entire matter. Local people have demanded to increase security arrangements on this route, so that such accidents can be prevented in future.
