Mumbai: Vir Das’s debut film ‘Happy Patel: Dangerous Detective’ is now ready to watch at home after theatres. This fun spy comedy produced by Aamir Khan will be released on Netflix on April 1, 2026. The film will stream on April Fools’ Day, which coincides with its comedic elements.

OTT release date of the film announced!

The film received a theatrical release on 16 January 2026. Vir Das is not only the lead actor, but he has also directed it along with KV Shastri. He has also written the script with Amogh Ranadive. Vir Das plays the role of ‘Happy Patel’ in the film, which is the story of an Indian boy raised by British parents. He wants to join the MI7 spy agency, but discovers his Indian roots during a mission in Goa.

Mona Singh plays the role of ‘Mama’ in the film, while Mithila Palkar, Sharib Hashmi and Srishti Tawde will also be seen in important roles. It also has several fun cameos, including Aamir Khan himself. Apart from this, Aamir’s nephew Imran Khan is also making a comeback in Bollywood after a decade through a cameo.

Stars like Chef Sanjeev Kapoor, Meiyang Chang, Ash King and comedian Sumukhi Suresh will also be seen in special appearances in the film. Netflix India shared a post on Instagram and wrote – ‘India is not for beginners… but for Happy Patel!’ The story of the film has a fun mix of action, comedy and family rivalry, which is capable of making the audience laugh. The film received average response during its theatrical release.

It collected around Rs 5.5 to 6.8 crore at the box office. Now after its release on OTT, fans hope that more and more people will watch it at home. Vir Das’s comic timing and the light-hearted mood of the film makes it a great option for family entertainment.
