Tamil Nadu Election 2026 : Tamil Nadu : The Election Commission has announced the elections for five states and the movement in Tamil Nadu politics has picked up pace. In the past, two major parties, DMK and AIADMK (Political News) has remained dominant, but the 2026 elections could mark a major shift. Famous actor and Tamil Nadu Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) lead Vijay (Thalapathy Vijay) has officially started his political career by announcing his party’s list of candidates in Chennai.
Vijay has not only made big promises to the youth, but has shown his warning to challenge his opponents by contesting from two important constituencies. This announcement has created excitement in the elections in the state. In Tamil Nadu there is an atmosphere of enthusiasm among 56 million voters, with more women (28 million) than men (27 million).

Thalapathy Vijay has confirmed that he will contest the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections from two constituencies namely Trichy East and Perambur (Chennai). His official name is C. Joseph will win. Explaining his political strategy, Vijay said that it will not be possible for him to campaign in each constituency personally, so he has selected credible candidates who can carry forward the work of the party effectively. Actor-turned-politician Vijay’s preparations clearly indicate that he wants to establish himself as a ‘third option’ in the state’s traditional two-party politics.
Vijay’s ‘core team’ entered the field
Addressing party officials in Chennai, Thalapathy Vijay also announced the names of his key colleagues. A member of his core team, N. Anand (Busi Anand), to T. from Nagar, Adva Arjun from Villivakkam and K. A. Sengottaiyan has been nominated from Gobichettipalayam. Besides, R. Arunraj from Tiruchengode and c. T. R. Nirmal Kumar has been nominated from Tirupparankundram. The party has J from Thousand Lights. C. D. Prabhakar and Sabrinathan from Virugambakkam have also expressed confidence.

Voting will be held in one phase
Polling for all 234 assembly seats in Tamil Nadu will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2026. Vijay’s party has fielded candidates across the state, making the fight three-way. Vijay’s candidature from Perambur was considered certain, but his decision to contest from Trichy East has surprised political pundits. Vijay’s main focus is on the youth of the state, to whom he made big promises before the elections. His entry into the fray has increased the possibility of a three-way fight. According to the Election Commission, the results of the polls will be announced on May 4, 2026. Approximately 7,617 third party voters will also participate in this election process.
