Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections: DMK’s big bet, will give ₹2,000 to women

Ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has released its manifesto. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has announced several promises while presenting it at the party headquarters on Sunday (29 March).

The manifesto promises to increase the monthly assistance amount for women from ₹1,000 to ₹2,000. Along with this, it has also been announced to increase the pension of the elderly to ₹ 2,000. It has been said that the ongoing breakfast scheme for school students will be extended from class 1 to class 8. At the same time, it has also been promised to provide interest-free loans up to ₹ 5 lakh to women self-help groups.

DMK in its manifesto has promised to continue the free electricity scheme for more than 20 lakh beneficiaries. Apart from this, it has also been said to provide meterless pumpsets for agriculture. In the field of education, it has been announced to provide laptops to 35 lakh students pursuing higher education. Besides, a promise has also been made to double the number of dialysis units in government hospitals.

Chief Minister Stalin claimed that his government has fulfilled the previous election promises and the same pace of development will be taken forward if voted to power again. Stalin hit out at the opposition parties, alleging that they were trying to disrupt the state’s welfare schemes.
