CM Dhami’s masterstroke: Change in housing policy for better tomorrow of employees

Now in Uttarakhand, government officials and officers will not have to spend their days in the shadow of dilapidated houses. The Pushkar Singh Dhami government of the state has prepared a big masterplan to change the appearance of the residences of government employees. Following the instructions of the Chief Minister, now the old and dilapidated government houses built in every corner of the state are going to be transformed. The direct aim of the government is that the employees who are busy day and night running the government machinery should at least get a safe and modern roof.

In fact, there have been reports from many districts of the state that government quarters have become so dilapidated that living there has become risky. Taking this problem seriously, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan have issued clear guidelines to the State Property Department. The plan is not limited to just renovation, but where necessary, old structures will be demolished and completely new and hi-tech residential complexes will be built. The government believes that when employees get better accommodation, their efficiency will also improve.

Dilapidated houses will be surveyed, preparations for new construction will be intensified

Uttarakhand government’s Uttarakhand Government Housing Scheme Under this, first of all a detailed survey of the dilapidated government houses present across the state is being conducted. Officials say that during the survey, those buildings will be identified whose condition is no longer habitable. In place of these buildings, ‘smart quarters’ equipped with modern facilities will now be built. Instructions have been given to the local administration that wherever vacant land is available with the department, a proposal to build new residential blocks should be immediately prepared.

It is being told that these new residences will not be made just a structure of four walls, but they will be close to the workplace and connected to all the basic facilities. The intention of the government is that the employees do not have to waste much time in commuting to office and they can live with their families in an organized environment.

The face of the government colony will change in the race course of Dehradun.

A major part of this entire scheme is also going to be implemented in the capital Dehradun. The State Estate Department has prepared a blueprint for the redevelopment of the Old Officers Colony located at Race Course, a posh area of Dehradun. Here, there is a proposal to build 31 new luxurious Category-II residences on the land vacated after the demolition of old and unusable buildings. Its estimated cost is around Rs 1458.56 lakh.

Not only this, another important proposal was placed before the committee on March 6, 2026, in which it has been said to build 10 new houses for Category-4 employees in Race Course Colony itself. A budget of approximately Rs 743.95 lakh is proposed for this. The project section of the Irrigation Department has prepared the detailed report (DPR) of both these projects, which is ready to be launched soon.

Special emphasis on high level monitoring and quality

To ensure that the quality of work in such a big scheme is not affected, the government has constituted a high-level committee. Secretary of State Property Department, Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar has clarified that any kind of negligence in construction work will not be tolerated. He said that the committee will not only survey the land, but will also visit the spot from time to time during the construction work. A strict ultimatum has been given to the executing agencies that all the work should be completed within the stipulated time.

In fact, this initiative of the government is being seen as a big investment towards strengthening the administrative structure of Uttarakhand. Getting better houses will not only boost the morale of the employees, but the officers posted in remote areas will also get better living facilities, which is expected to speed up the government work. Now it remains to be seen how quickly these new buildings come out of the files and come up on the ground.
