Slow start of mustard procurement in Haryana mandis, farmers had to wait a long time – Anurag Dhanda

Haryana News: On the first day of government procurement of mustard in the mandis of Haryana, there was a slow start of the arrangements, due to which many farmers had to face problems. According to information received from various districts, a large number of farmers reached the mandis with their crops since morning, but the procurement process could not start at the expected pace.

Anurag Dhanda expressed concern

Expressing concern over this situation, Aam Aadmi Party’s national media in-charge Anurag Dhanda said that the procurement process was quite limited on the first day in many mandis of the state. He said that despite the arrival of mustard in good quantity, the percentage of purchase remained low, due to which the farmers had to wait.

Farmers forced to stand in long queues

Long queues of farmers were seen in districts like Jind, Hisar, Fatehabad, Rewari and Rohtak of the state. Many farmers had reached the markets early in the morning, but their crops could not be purchased even till late evening. At some places, farmers had to return due to non-completion of necessary procedures.

Technical problems in e-procurement system also

During this period, technical problems also emerged in the e-procurement system. Farmers faced difficulty in getting gate passes and getting their records verified. In many cases, the process could not proceed due to mismatch of data, due to which farmers had to spend additional time. This situation indicated that there was a need to further strengthen the technical system.

Lack of basic facilities even at market level

Lack of some basic facilities was also revealed at the market level. Farmers said that the availability of gunny bags, weighing equipment and laborers remained limited. Apart from this, the need for improvement in drinking water, seating arrangements and other facilities was also felt.

What do experts say

Experts believe that by learning from these challenges faced in the initial days of mustard procurement, the system can be improved in the coming days. Wheat crop is also going to reach the markets soon, in such a situation it will be very important to streamline the procurement process so that the farmers do not face any kind of inconvenience.

At present, the situation on the first day has made it clear that there is a need to focus more on better coordination, technical strength and availability of infrastructure in the mandis, so that farmers get the opportunity to sell their crops on time and in a fair manner.
