Shardul Thakur breaks the silence on Lord memes after MI’s win over KKR
Shardul Thakur wanted to play for the Mumbai Indians as he resides in the financial capital and is a part of the domestic set-up as well. He was traded from Lucknow Super Giants before the start of the Indian Premier League 2026, and the all-rounder justified the move by taking three wickets in his team’s campaign opener against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium. He was named the Player of the Match for playing a role in MI’s six-wicket win. Shardul dismissed Ajinkya Rahane, Finn Allen, and Cameron Green and conceded 39 runs from his four overs.
Harsha Bhogle asked about his success on the batting-friendly wicket.
“I’ve said this before, and I like challenges. This was a challenging situation, especially sixth over. Because you expect Boult or Bumrah to get early wickets, but it didn’t happen. So it was challenging coming in and bowling that sixth over. Challenges are what have made me. This ground has given me both bitter and sweet memories. To come and play for MI is special. To come and play on my home ground,” he said.
“I was a net bowler and an upcoming boy in the early years, quietly making my mark. Since then, it was always going to happen, and it’s finally happened. So it feels special. I’ll be very happy if I stay here (for my career). It’s my home city. The kind of backing I have got here is amazing. To trade me from LSG and play me first game,” he added.
Shardul finally spoke about his viral Lord memes on social media. His fans have given him the title for his ability to break partnerships.
“I like them because people give that name with love. So it’s not really a ‘meme’ meme. Just a way for people to show love,” he concluded.
