Proud to screen Bengali film ‘Purtawan’

New Delhi. Actress and producer Rituparna Sengupta has described working with veteran actress Sharmila Tagore in the Bengali film ‘Puratawan’ as a special experience for her. He expressed pride at the screening of the film at the India International Film Festival (IFFD) held in Delhi. Talking about this collaboration, Sengupta appreciated Tagore’s enduring dignity and professionalism. He told how dedicated Tagore is to his work, even at the age of 80. He said that his presence on the set provided a sense of belonging and guidance, especially in difficult times.

Rituparna said that it is an interesting experience for her as she is a part of the film industry. IFFD is a wonderful international platform, and he is proud that his film ‘Purtaavan’ is being screened here. He described Tagore’s involvement in the project as a turning point, as the film marks his return to Bengali cinema after a gap of 14 years. ‘Purtaavan’ is a mother-daughter story, in which Sengupta plays the daughter opposite Tagore. The film focuses on mental health issues, such as dementia, and highlights human relationships. Sengupta emphasized the deeper meaning of the film and described it as an Indian story that has global relevance, even though it is based on Bengali language and culture.

Regarding Tagore’s association with the project, Sengupta said that the veteran actress was impressed by the sensitivity of the script and expressed her desire to work in the film. He described Tagore as an artiste who chooses her films thoughtfully and said that her agreeing to this project is a matter of pride for the entire team. The film has received recognition at many international film festivals and has also received several awards. It was an honor for us that she came for the inauguration and she loved the script.
