Us E 3 Sentry Awacs Aircraft Explodes In Iranian Attack On Saudi Base

On Thursday (March 27), the US Air Force’s state-of-the-art surveillance aircraft deployed at Saudi Arabia’s Prince Sultan Air Base was reported destroyed in a missile and drone attack by Iran. This incident has raised serious questions on the capability of air defense systems and military preparedness in the region. According to reports, the E-3 Sentry (AWACS) aircraft has been heavily damaged in the attack. Additionally, several KC-135 Stratotanker aircraft are also feared to be affected. More than a dozen American military personnel are said to be injured in the attack.

The E-3 Sentry AWACS is a critical airborne surveillance platform, providing radar coverage over a 200-mile area. The system, developed in the 1970s, is estimated to be worth between $500 and $700 million, and the total global number is only around 30. In such a situation, the attack on it is being considered a major blow to American military capabilities.

AWACS aircraft play an important role in monitoring airspace, monitoring enemy movements and coordinating operations during war. Experts believe that damage to such platforms could affect America’s military operational capability in the Middle East, as it is not easy to compensate quickly.

This attack has also raised questions as to how despite having a state-of-the-art air defense system, the attack on such a large military base was successful. The combined attack of drones and missiles has exposed the weaknesses of the existing security framework.
