Miami Open 2026: Yannick Sinner defeated Jiri Lehka and won the title, created history of ‘Sunshine Double’
Miami. Italy’s star player Yannick Sinner won the title by defeating Jiri Lehecka of Czech Republic 6-4, 6-4 in the rain-affected final of Miami Open on Sunday night. With this win, Sinner became the first player to complete the ‘Sunshine Double’ without losing a single set.
The world number two Sinner won 92 percent of the points on her first serve in the match and saved all three break points she faced throughout the match. With this win, he extended his winning streak to 17 without losing a set in Masters 1000 matches.
After the match, Sinner said, “We have worked very hard to reach this point, so I am very happy. Now I am also excited to return home. It is incredible for me to achieve the Sunshine Double for the first time, I never thought it would be possible.”
The match started late by about 90 minutes due to rain. Despite this, Sinner made a great start and took a 3-1 lead early in the first set and won the set on the basis of strong service. At the beginning of the second set, the game had to be stopped again due to rain, but after the comeback, Sinner maintained his dominance.
Lehka, who was playing his first career Masters 1000 final, gave a tough fight in the second set. He saved several break points and even took a 4-3 lead at one point, but Sinner came back with better play in the decisive moments.
Sinner succeeded on his sixth break point in the second set to take a 5-4 lead and then won the match on his serve.
It is noteworthy that Sinner has become the first player since Roger Federer in 2017 to win the Indian Wells and Miami Open titles consecutively. This achievement is called the ‘Sunshine Double’.
With this special achievement, Sinner has registered his name in the list of great players like Novak Djokovic, Andre Agassi, Pete Sampras, Michael Chang and Jim Courier.
