Himanta Biswa Sarma’s sensational claim: “Congress used to take bribe for job”, now big revelation will happen

Guwahati: Before the Assam Assembly elections, the political temperature of the state has reached sky high. On the same ‘pitch’ on which Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was preparing to corner Congress, Congress’s Gaurav Gogoi is now seen doing tremendous ‘batting’. Both the parties are face to face with each other on the issue of corruption. While Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is making serious allegations against Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, Gogoi has also retaliated and put the Chief Minister in the dock.

Corruption issue and April 9 war

Voting is to be held in Assam on April 9 and just before that, the verbal volleys in both the camps have intensified. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma alleges that corruption was at its peak during the 15-year rule of Congress. He claims that during that time, bribes of up to Rs 2 lakh had to be paid even for small jobs like Anganwadi. On the other hand, Congress has accused the Chief Minister and his close associates of grabbing hundreds of acres of land and rigging government schemes.

Himanta Biswa Sarma’s sharp attack on Congress

Chief Minister Sarma has made many sensational claims targeting Gaurav Gogoi and Congress. He said that some very serious things have come to light in the SIT report. Sarma even alleged that Gaurav Gogoi’s family is connected to people who can be a threat to national security. Calling Congress an ‘anti-Assam’ and ‘family centric’ party, he said that under the BJP rule, 1.65 lakh jobs have been given without any bribe and 2 lakh more jobs will be given if it returns to power.

Congress’s ‘land mafia’ counterattack

Instead of keeping quiet, Congress has also branded the Chief Minister as a ‘land mafia’. Congress leaders allege that people close to the Chief Minister are in possession of about 12,000 bighas of land and about 3,960 acres of land is under their control. The party claims that land has been given to big corporates through 17 companies linked to the family. Besides, Congress has also accused the government of harassing Muslims and spreading hatred in the name of encroachment.

politics of threat vs development

Gaurav Gogoi has accused the Assam government of doing politics of fear and intimidation. Recalling the tenure of his father and former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, he said that the people of Assam now want peace and stability. Gogoi says that this time the public will vote on the basis of moral courage. At the same time, Sarma has promised that if he wins again, 5 lakh bighas of encroached land will be vacated and distributed among the poor.

In this battle of Assam, regional parties like Raijor Dal and Assam Jatiya Parishad are also opening a front against the Chief Minister. Now it remains to be seen which side the camel will sit on when the results come on May 4.
