WATCH LIVE: Vijay TVK Files Nomination Perambur Chennai Tamil Nadu Elections 2026: Political Debut

Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam president and actor Vijay formally filed his nomination papers to the Returning Officer at Dr Ambedkar College, Vyasarpadi in Chennai on Monday, March 30, 2026, marking the official beginning of one of the most anticipated political debuts in Tamil Nadu’s recent electoral history.

Vijay will contest from two constituencies simultaneously. He has filed from Perambur in Chennai and from Tiruchirappalli East in central Tamil Nadu. Tamil Nadu assembly polls across all 234 seats are scheduled for April 23, 2026, with counting of votes on May 4.

Perambur is not an accidental choice. The constituency is one of the largest assembly segments in Chennai following the 2011 delimitation, with over 2.20 lakh registered voters. It is a high-profile urban battleground that spans working-class and middle-class neighbourhoods in northern Chennai, historically characterised by competitive multi-party contests and a diverse voter base that cuts across caste and community lines. Winning Perambur would provide Vijay with a Chennai foothold and a national-level narrative about an urban mandate for his new party. Fighting from Tiruchirappalli East simultaneously gives TVK a central Tamil Nadu presence and signals the party’s ambition to build across geographic zones rather than concentrating solely in Chennai.

The nomination filing transforms what had been a political movement built around Vijay’s star power and TVK’s grassroots outreach into a direct electoral contest where ballots will determine whether the phenomenon translates into votes on April 23.
