This neighboring country of India is moving towards dictatorship, the President will become the Army Chief

Desk: In India’s neighboring country, Myanmar, junta chief Min Aung Hlaing is poised to become the supreme leader, meaning dictator. In fact, Myanmar’s parliament has initiated the presidential selection process after the general elections. Under this process, Min Aung Hlaing will be elected president. On Monday (March 30), Min Aung Hlaing was nominated for the presidential election. Aung-backed political party holds a majority in Myanmar.

Min Aung San Suu Kyi, who has held the position of army chief since 2011, now wants to legally control Myanmar. To achieve this, Myanmar recently held partisan elections. Min Aung San Suu Kyi’s Union Solidarity and Development Party won these elections.

Following the crackdown on the Rohingya, Min Aung San Suu Kyi’s influence in Myanmar grew. In 2021, the military overthrew the elected government of Aung San Suu Kyi. Suu Kyi and the Myanmar President were arrested as part of the coup. Suu Kyi is currently in jail. Subsequently, Min Aung San Suu Kyi announced a military government, dubbed the Junta. As pressure mounted on Min Aung San Suu Kyi, he arranged for elections to be held in late 2025. His parties won 108 of the 224 seats, just four short of a majority. After manipulation, Min Aung San Suu Kyi’s supporters formed the government in Myanmar.
