What is the new update?
According to the latest decision of the government, customers purchasing electric two-wheeler (E2W) will now get the benefit of subsidy if they register by July 31, 2026. At the same time, for electric three-wheelers like e-rickshaw and e-cart, this deadline has been extended to March 31, 2028. However, this scheme is budget-based, that is, the benefit will be available only as long as funds are available or the due date is met, whichever is earlier.
How much discount will you get on two-wheeler?
There has been a slight change in the subsidy rules for those buying electric scooters or bikes. Now the government will give subsidy at the rate of Rs 2,500 per kWh, the maximum limit of which has been fixed at Rs 5,000 per vehicle. An important condition has also been added to this, this benefit will be available only to those vehicles whose ex-factory price will be less than Rs 1.5 lakh. The government aims to support around 24.79 lakh electric two-wheelers through this scheme.
How much relief will be given on three-wheeler?
Relief has also been provided for electric three-wheelers, such as e-rickshaws and e-karts, which form a major part of the general public’s daily commute. These too will get subsidy at the rate of Rs 2,500 per kWh, but here the maximum limit has been fixed at Rs 12,500 per vehicle. With this step, the government is aiming to bring more than 39,000 electric three-wheelers on the roads.
What is the benefit for buyers?
The biggest advantage of this decision is that now customers have more time to buy electric vehicles. Getting a subsidy reduces the initial price of the vehicle, which can make it easier for middle class and lower middle class families to purchase an EV.
