Census 2027 starts from tomorrow, know what you will have to do and what is new

Tezzbuzz Desk – Preparations for the next census have intensified in the country. Registrar General and Census Commissioner Mrityunjay Kumar Narayan has informed that India is going to conduct its first completely digital census in 2027, which will start from April 1.

This time the census will be conducted completely through digital medium. About 30 lakh enumerators, supervisors and officers will be involved in this process. The special thing is that for the first time people will also get the option of self-enumeration i.e. filling their information online.

The process will be completed in two phases

The census will be conducted in two phases:

  • Phase 1 (April–September 2026):
    During this time, house listing work will be done, in which information about the condition of the houses, available facilities and assets will be collected.
    The facility of self-enumeration will be available for the first 15 days of this phase.
  • Second phase (February 2027):
    In this, along with population counting, information related to social, economic, education and migration will be collected.
    This phase will start first in hilly states like Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.

Use of mobile app and web portal

Enumerators will enter data directly through the mobile app for the census. At the same time, citizens will be able to fill their information in advance by logging into the web portal. After submitting the form they will receive a SE ID Will be found, which will later have to be shared with the authorities.

Available in 16 languages

The self-enumeration portal will be available in 16 languages, so that more and more people can use it easily. The government has approved a budget of about Rs 11,718 crore for this census, in which it will be spent on training, technical infrastructure and logistics.
