Pakistan hideout of major terrorist organizations, military operation failed

A US Congressional report (25 March 2026) has revealed that Pakistan is a center of operations for several armed terrorist groups, some of which have been active since the 1980s. According to the report, these terrorist groups are global, Afghanistan, India, domestic or sectarian (sectarian) objectives.

The report states that 12 of these groups are listed as Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTOs) under US law and most follow Islamic extremist ideology.

The report said several major military operations, air strikes and millions of “intelligence-based operations” to eliminate terrorist groups designated by the US and UN have failed. These terrorist groups are active from Pakistan’s soil and are continuously carrying out dangerous activities.

Major terrorist groups and their activities:

  • Lashkar-e-Taiba (LET): Established in Pakistan in the late 1980s, declared FTO in 2001. Based in Punjab and Pakistan-administered (Azad) Kashmir under the leadership of Hafiz Saeed. Responsible in the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks. by changing name Jamaat-ud-Dawa It has been done.
  • Jaish-e-Mohammed (JEM): Founded by Masood Azhar in 2000, declared FTO in 2001. About 500 armed supporters active in India, Afghanistan and Pakistan.
  • Other active groups: Harkat-ul-Jahad-Islami (HUJI), Harkat-ul-Mujahideen (HUM), and Hizbul-Mujahideen (HM)..

The report strengthens India’s claim that Pakistan actively supports terrorist groups. An example of this is The Resistance Front (TRF), a branch group of Lashkar, which killed 26 people in the Pahalgam attack.

India’s military action:

  • 6 May 2025: India launches Operation Sindoor. Indian Armed Forces targeted nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and PoJK. More than 100 terrorists and their trainers/handlers were killed in this attack.
  • 10 May 2025: Pakistan attacked Indian Air Force bases, Army ammunition depots and military cantonments with missiles, drones and long-range weapons.
  • Indian air defense systems, counter-drone systems and electronic equipment completely thwarted the Pakistani attacks. After this the Indian Air Force targeted Pakistani airbase, command center and military structures. Major airbases such as Chakla, Sargodha, Rafiqui, Rahimyar Khan, Jacobabad, Sukar, and Bholeri were successfully attacked.
  • 12 May 2025: Formal talks were held between the DGMOs of the two countries and both sides decided to cease military operations.
